Recommended Formatting Guidelines for All Manuscripts

Fiction and Nonfiction Manuscripts
Manuscripts may be up to 20 pages, and should be page-numbered, printed on one side of 8.5" x 11" white paper, and double-spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font, with margins of at least 1" on all sides. Full name should appear in the upper lefthand corner of the the first page with the author's last name at the top of every subsequent page.

Poetry Manuscripts
Manuscripts of up to ten pages of poetry, printed on one side of 8.5" x 11" white paper, single or double-spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font, with margins of at least 1" on all sides. Full name should appear in the upper lefthand corner of the first page with the author's last name at the top of every subsequent page.

Manuscripts for Afternoon Seminars

  • Prose manuscripts must be double-spaced and in 12-pt type. They must not exceed 20 pages. Please number the pages and make sure your name is on the manuscript.
  • Poetry manuscripts should not exceed 10 pages (one poem per page).
  • Send one advance copy of your manuscript, along with an optional one-page cover letter describing your writing experience and aspirations, to the Antioch Writers' Workshop, PO Box 494, Yellow Springs, OH 45387, to arrive no later than June 12, 2008. This advance copy will be forwarded to your instructor.
  • Because space in the seminars is limited to 12 participants, we ask that your manuscript be submitted on time, by the June 12, 2008, deadline. If we have not received your manuscript in advance, we reserve the right to give your seminar spot to a wait-listed participant who has already submitted a manuscript.
  • Bring 12 copies of the same manuscript with you to the first class to share with the other writers in your seminar group. We regret that we cannot accept manuscripts sent as e-mail attachments. NOTE: The advance manuscript you submit for your instructor and the copies that you bring to the Workshop to share with your Intensive MUST BE EXACTLY THE SAME! As tempting as some last-minute revisions may be, you all need to literally “be on the same page” during your intensive.
  • No manuscript is needed for “Your Journey Begins”.
Manuscripts for One-on-One Critiques
  • If you have signed up for a manuscript consultation (the cost is $75), please send an extra copy of your manuscript so that we can forward it to your reader before the workshop begins.
  • We recommend that you a) either choose a faculty reader other than your seminar instructor, b) submit a different manuscript from that which you'll be critiquing during your seminar, or c) do both.
  • Prose manuscripts must be double-spaced, in 12-pt type, and must not exceed 20 pages in length.
  • Poetry manuscripts should be in 12-pt type, and should not exceed 10 pages (one poem per page).
  • Please number the pages and make sure your name is on the manuscript.
  • No cover letter is required.
  • All manuscripts must be received by June 12, 2008.
  • During the Workshop, we will arrange a time for you to meet one-on-one with your faculty reader.
